The object of the choice based interdisciplinary IPR course for the students drawn from diverse departments of the college is to make them appreciate the nuances of IPR and how it is relevant to them in their research process. The linked object is to give the students an opportunity to apply the concepts they learnt to their own research problems and plan their respective research strategies to avoid “rediscovering the wheel” and at the same time initiate the protection of the Intellectual Property created during their research to aid in speedy transfer to application centers / industries for commercialization.
A common set of objects of the UG and PG level choice based interdisciplinary courses is to make the students aware of the relevant community level intellectual property such as Geographical Indications that can be used for socio-economic development in communities.
The courses at the UG and PG levels will sensitize the students to issues of intellectual property rights in an academic system so that they imbibe ethical practices at an early of their lives, which in the longer run get deeply embedded as good practices, as they step into their professional trajectories.
Researchers with skills in landscaping of technologies based on comprehensive literature searches that include accessing and analyzing patent literature and using the same for focused definition of their research problems and working out patent non-infringing solutions to their research problems thereby enhancing the quality of research output and targeting them for possible commercialization.

About the Cell
BIET Intellectual Property Rights Cell (Bharat IPR Cell) was established in 2020 with a vision to develop human resources in the management of Intellectual Property Rights as an integral part of the innovation process and the innovation value chain in the University. Several patent, copyright and industrial design applications have been filed based on the innovations done in college. The Cell has been involved in several IPR awareness and implementation programmes on the College Campus and across the southern region of India. The Cell is gradually building IPR consciousness. The IPR Chair Professor and various staff recruited under the scheme operates from the IPR Cell. The government of India framed the National IPR Policy of 2016 to establish a holistic atmosphere conducive to exploiting the full potential of IP for social, economic, and cultural development. One of the policy’s main objectives is to strengthen IP Chairs in educational institutions of higher learning to provide quality teaching and research, develop teaching capacity and curriculum and evaluate the work on performance-based criteria. Thus, a key objective of this Cell is to integrate IPR with the education process to enhance the quality of thinking, propagate a culture of regard and respect for IPR and ensure speedy and accurate identification and protection of innovations arising out of the research work carried out in the college.
